The first application of our registered and patented wind measurement device emerged with advanced technology sensors due to R&D and test studies conducted in the doctoral thesis at Erciyes University. This thesis study provided a new production and service area to our country’s economy, saving it from dependency on foreign countries. After the agreement was made with the inventors for the idea that emerged from the doctoral thesis, our company applied for a patent; the prototype and software development were successfully carried out by our company within the scope of the KOSGEB R&D Innovation project supported by the Ministry of Industry. After the completion of the project, the prototype of this domestic and nationally developed product was sold, and a calibration certificate was also obtained from the General Directorate of Meteorology.
The MSG-Blackeye wind measurement device can measure wind speed and direction with a single device instead of the traditional cup anemometer and direction measurement device. It measures the measurement using force sensors as a first in the world. With a registered patent, this device uses temperature, humidity, and pressure sensors to measure the wind vector (wind speed and direction) more realistically and accurately by considering weather conditions in two or three directions over a cylindrical object.
With this instrument, while measuring the speed and direction components of the wind vector, air density was also taken into account, and environmental effects that could affect the accuracy of the speed measurement result by 10% were considered. The impact of air density on wind speed measurements was recorded in experiments conducted with reference speed measurements in the wind tunnel. In 2024, our measuring instrument was calibrated at the Accredited Calibration Center of the General Directorate of Meteorology. The calibration results were suitable for the criteria determined by the World Meteorological Organization standards.
After field trials and improvements, our product was launched as MSG Blackeye-A, which can be used for meteorological stations; MSG Blackeye-B for solar and wind power plants; and MSG Blackeye-C for agricultural irrigation applications. Essential features of our product;
- In wind speed and direction measurement, two wind characteristics (speed and direction) can be measured with a single instrument, and does not contain moving parts, and does not require maintenance.
- Temperature, pressure, and humidity measurements are also included in the instrument, and with these measurements, wind speed can be measured more accurately by taking environmental conditions into account in wind speed measurement. Thus, precise measurements can be made in meteorological stations with the MSG-Blackeye-A
- Since the results obtained from temperature, pressure, and humidity measurements are usable, it provides another advantage compared to its equivalents in the market; with the MSG-Blackeye-B model, it can be used as a meteorological station in solar and wind powerplants, and 5 different meteorological data (wind speed, wind direction, temperature, pressure, and humidity) can be measured with a single instrument.
- The economical version of our measurement instrument, the MSG-Blackeye-C model, has been prepared for solutions that prevent unnecessary water consumption in agricultural irrigation systems in case of increased wind speed due to water from reaching the area to be irrigated.
The MSG-Blackeye-C model was awarded in the irrigation technologies field within the scope of the ATSO Growtech Agricultural Innovation Awards at the International Agricultural Fair organized by the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry in September 2024.
